We all know them… we call them friends, family, church members, etc… People to whom we find ourselves tied who always have a “sob story”. No I don’t refer to the growing number of individuals who are looking for work, who are struggling to find a job in this depressed economy. I’m referring to the folks who only don’t have money at bill time, but anytime there’s a party to go to they’re all in. They have jobs they don’t go to or they’ve decided to work part time when they can pull extra shifts, but they decide it’s easier for them to ask you for the money.
At this juncture I’d like to just state this… I have no problem with helping someone if I’m able to put them on the road to “reasonable” financial stability. However, in some cases, you end up giving money to feed a vicious cycle of poor financial management.
We’ve all heard the popular adage about teaching a man to fish, but these people don’t even want to know where the lake is or how to cook the fish. They want to eat off your plate and eat the fish sticks that your child was going to have for dinner. Just face it…some people’s plan for financial success is YOU! So if they will ever do better for themselves and their families (they probably won’t) you’ll have to let them fall on their faces.
This isn’t the time to be foolish with your income, or buy “happiness” as you perceive it. It’s time to make sure you and yours are feed and have a roof over your heads. Since we aren’t in times of abundance and you’ve chosen to sit at home all day while I hustle for every dollar I get, when you ask me to hold something my answer will be simply this… “I don’t deposit money into burning banks”.
But this is just a mindless rant from someone who spends a lot of time in the corner!
